The Gospel at Home

It is a fraternal meeting between the components of a household, under the protection of Jesus, with the day and time previously scheduled (and should always be repeated on the same day and time of the week) with the purpose of gathering the family around Evangelical teachings, in the light of Spiritism, and under the assistance of Spiritual Benefactors. Everyone in the household can participate, including children, or it can be done by just one person in the household. It begins with a simple and sincere prayer, followed by the reading of a chapter from a book of the Spiritist doctrine, such as: Our Bread, Fonte Viva, Jesus at Home, among others. After the uplifting reading, comment with everyone's participation, a topic from the book The Gospel According to Spiritism, ending the meeting with a prayer.

Recommendations:

The time of the Meeting should be a maximum of thirty minutes; Avoid the mediumistic manifestation of Spirits; Water can be placed to be blessed by the Spiritual Protectors to be shared among the participants; Avoiding comments against any religion, people or situations, as well as turning the teachings into direct or indirect criticism of any family member or other people. The presence of a visitor should not be a reason to suppress the Meeting. If the day of the meeting is lost in a given week, you can continue the next week; when the whole family participates and it happens to have only one person on the appointed day, the meeting should take place normally; In the case of travel, the family can hold the meeting wherever it is;

“When the Gospel penetrates the home, the heart opens the door to the Divine Master more easily.”  Emmanuel

What is the Gospel at Home?

Periodic family meeting for the participation, union and practice of Jesus’ teachings, regardless of whether it is a Spiritist, Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical family, etc.

What is the ideal frequency?

It is recommended to practice the Gospel at Home at least once a week, always on the same day and time, with a MAXIMUM duration of 30 min. The choice of day and time should be made based on the availability of the participants and the family’s routine.

Why always the same day and time?

So that the practice becomes a habit, so that everyone can get used to it. This schedule also allows the Superior Spiritual Realm members to be scheduled to attend this meeting, giving assistance, guidance and support to the family group during the activity.

Why should the duration not exceed 30 minutes?

So that the meeting does not become tiring, especially at households where children and adolescents reside. It is not the duration that determines the effectiveness of the meeting, but the seriousness and dedication with which it is viewed and carried out. A lengthy meeting could have the opposite effect, causing boredom, monotony and even aversion to spiritual matters.

What are the stages of a Gospel at Home?

Basically, opening prayer, reading, comments and closing prayer. We suggest this sequence because it seems to be the most logical and effective. However, adaptations can be made according to the particularities of each home.

What is the opening prayer?

Simple and brief prayer, said spontaneously, which has the purpose of welcoming the Superior Spiritual Realm members, asking for assistance during the meeting, as well as placing participants in conditions to better absorb the teachings to be studied. We suggest that this prayer always be done by a different participant each week, giving everyone the opportunity to participate.

Which book should be read?

The Gospel According to Spiritism, for containing the moral teachings of Jesus interpreted in the light of the Spiritist Doctrine. However, other books can be used to complement the part of the uplifting reading, even if they are not Spiritist’s, as long as they have a high content, bring a positive message of hope, love and peace. In order to make the best use of the studies, it is recommended that the pages be read aloud by a participant, in short excerpts at each meeting, always in sequence, so that everything that can be approached at each meeting can be understood.

How should comments be made during the Meetings?

After reading, which should also be done by a different participant each week, everyone should comments on what they understood from the section read, trying to bring that understanding to their daily lives. One participant speaks at a time, so that everyone has the opportunity to express themselves and share their knowledge. It is important to keep in mind that spiritual teachings in general directly concern our daily lives and our most common actions. Therefore, it would be useless to study the Gospel or any other spiritualist book if we could not apply it in our daily lives. Thus, it is important that a connection be made between what has been read, the comments and our routine.

How is the closing prayer?

One of the participants thanks for the assistance of the Mentors (Spiritual Realm Guides), for the inspirations and lessons of that day, asking that they can be recorded in the memory and soul of each one of the participants, to be applied in the daily lives of everyone present, until the next meeting.

What else can be done during a Gospel at Home?

Soft and low music of any kind can be used to calm the atmosphere and the participants. It is also possible to place a jar or bottle of water in the meeting place, asking during the prayers to be blessed by the Mentors, in order to be used by the family during the week. This water can, after the end of the meeting, be mixed with a larger volume of water (filter, can, drinker, etc.) so that all benefits the largest possible number of people.

What is NOT a Gospel at Home?

The Gospel at Home has the main purpose of promoting family conversation, taking advantage of the opportunity to study spiritual lessons. Therefore, the Gospel at Home should not be confused or transformed into - mediumistic meeting. The purpose of the meeting is not to give way to spirits. If there are mediums in the family, they should be instructed to look for a suitable Spiritist Center, in order to study and train their mediumistic abilities, so that they are not victims of less enlightened spirits that would only disturb the home, family and the environment.

Spiritist Session: the meeting should not be used for passes, blessings or anything like that. These activities should be carried out in a suitable Spiritist Center, where there are spiritual protection and the environment is specially prepared to the practice.

Group of Psychotherapy Session: The Gospel at Home is an opportunity for the family to forget the problems and difficulties of the day by day, dedicating themselves to the study of spiritual things in order to better deal with life and people. So, nothing about wanting to talk about traumas, nightmares, fears and anguishes, mentioning the names of known absent people, criticizing their behavior or way of thinking, talking about past episodes, etc. The meeting must be fraternal and loving, so that, under the influence of a bright environment, everyone can harmonize and overcome difficulties.

Frequently asked questions about Gospel at Home:

If I have an appointment on the day and time of the meeting, can I postpone it until later or the next day?

Preferably not, for the reasons explained above. A whole spiritual preparation will always be done on the same day and time, so that the family can make the most of those moments. If we fail to hold the meeting on the day and time agreed with the Mentors and family members, this preparation will be lost and the Higher Spiritual Realm Members may not be available a few hours later or the next day. Of course, in unavoidable situations, the postponement will be understandable, but there is still a way to resolve it, as we will see later.

What do I do if the phone or doorbell rings during the meeting?

Telephones should preferably be switched off. There is nothing so urgent that it cannot wait 30 minutes to be resolved. If you are expecting a particularly important call, it is most advisable to let the person know to call before or after the meeting time. The case of a doorbell is a little more delicate. If it is a known person at the door, invite to the meeting, explaining briefly what it is about, in case the person does not know. If it is a stranger at the door, ask to return in 30 minutes. All of this must be done without exasperation, without nervousness, without agitation, so that the environment is not disturbed by our agitation.

I live by myself or my whole family is traveling on the day of the meeting. Can I do it myself?

Yes, absolutely yes. The spiritual preparation will happen in the same way and the benefits as well, even by the family members who are traveling, as they will receive the energies of the meeting and the blessings from a distance. They can even do the Gospel at Home from wherever they are on the same day and time as you, and the Higher Spiritual Realm Members will take care of connecting you energetically.

What is the best place in the house to do the Gospel at Home?

One in which participants feel more comfortable and more at ease. It can be the living room, a bedroom, the kitchen table or even the bathroom when you are alone or if you don't have everyone's liking for our spiritual practice. If available, you can even do it in the yard, on the balcony, in the garden. In case of travel, you can also do it on the beach or country house, in the hotel room, on the plane (mentally, of course), etc.

Can a non-family member or a non-resident of the household, attend the meeting regularly?

Why not? Of course it can. Everyone would benefit: the family that resides in that home and the family of the visitor. Let us not forget that the essence of the Gospel is charity. And what greater charity can there be to study the Gospel with a brother/sister?

My children are very agitated and don't stand still during the meeting. What to do? Can I excuse them from participating?

Children are pure energy. It is even unfair to demand that they stand still for 30 min, listening to things that they do not understand well or because they are not interested in it for the time being. The ideal is to have a day and time to do the Gospel at Home especially for them so that they also have the opportunity to take a taste for fraternal family reunion, as well as to absorb the Evangelical concepts that are much more easily etched in the child's mind, moldable and accessible. Don’t fight with them, scolding them or wanting them to be completely silent. Let us not forget that children are spirits and, as such, may have had many more experiences than adults in their other lives. When they want to participate more actively in the meeting or in the comments, listen to what they have to say. We are often surprised by its lucidity and spiritual clarity.

My husband, my wife, my father-in-law, my daughter, don't you want to participate in the Gospel at Home? Should I compel them?

No, you shouldn’t. Participation must be spontaneous and natural, so that the person does not raise mental and spiritual barriers against the Gospel, because he or she is upset and is forced to do what does not want to do. The meeting must take place regardless of the participation of these person (s), in a place where they are not disturbed, so as not to create unnecessary friction. Let us remember that the Gospel is not imposed, nor is faith. This is an intimate personal feeling that must come from the creature itself, from its need to understand something more about itself, about life and about the universe.

If it is no longer possible to hold the meeting on the chosen day and time, should I stop doing it?

Of course not. Just change it to another fixed day and time and communicate to the family and the Mentors, quoting it out loud during the meeting. They will probably know about our intentions long before we communicate them, but it never hurts to show respect for them and make that warning.

Can I use known prayers for opening and closing?

Yes, as long as everyone fully understands what is being said during the prayer. One suggestion would be to study your own prayer before you start using it regularly. The more we understand what we are saying when we pray, the better the effects of prayer on us. And this is true even for the Our Father and Hail Mary, prayers that we often recite in a memorized way, without reflecting on what is being said.

Does the Gospel at Home replace individual and personal spiritual practices?

No. We should all have the habit of praying and doing our practices particularly whenever possible, creating the habit of connecting with our Mentor and with the Mentors of the family, the home, the Spiritual Center we attend, the group we work in, etc. Personal prayer is an intimate dialogue between us and God or his representatives and shows respect, faith and trust in them.

Does the Gospel in the Home replace work in Spiritist / Spiritualist and welfare institutions?

No. One thing has nothing to do with the other. The Gospel in the Home is for the support and guidance of the home and family, and is independent of other work we do. One thing is our family life, another is our life in society. We must take care of both, in a particular way, with the same care, not mixing the subjects of one with the other.

Does mediumistic or spiritual work replace the Gospel at Home?

No, for the same reasons explained above

Does the Gospel at Home replace the “Pass” (Transfer of Spiritual/ Magnetic Energy) or spiritual assistance?

No, spiritual assistance and a “pass” must be taken, regardless of the Gospel at Home, as they have a specific purpose and generally serve to take care of a temporary problem.
